Richard was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1996. He practised as a self-employed barrister (or trial lawyer) for twenty-five years, during most of which time he had the privilege of spending every day of the week in the criminal or civil courts and tribunals, presenting cases for law firms.
In 2023 Richard became an employed barrister with the leading Italian law firm, BonelliErede, to build its international arbitration and litigation practices in London.
Richard runs the advanced cross-examination training course for Middle Temple, one of the four Inns of Court in London. In 2012 he co-founded the International Advocacy Academy (IAA), a non-profit which trains international arbitration advocates in Europe the skill of cross-examination.
Richard speaks French, Italian and German adequately. He is an alumnus of AIJA (International Young Lawyers Association).
