Christian Ule is a German-qualified attorney (Rechtsanwalt) and managing partner of the law firm ULE & STEINER, which oversees the international legal practice MIDEAST | Law. He is based in the Cairo office of the firm, which is affiliated with the Egyptian law office of Karim Adel.
Christian represents and advises a broad client base of national and multinational companies on various aspects of business in the Middle East. He concentrates on foreign direct investments (FDI) in Egypt and the Gulf Cooperation Countries (GCC). He advises foreign investors on setting up, acquiring, and restructuring companies in Egypt and drafts, reviews, and negotiates contracts with commercial or governmental entities.
Christian represents clients in joint venture negotiations, tenders, and public concessions in the infrastructure sector in Egypt and advises on machinery and plant construction contracts. He has gained significant experience in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia as he headed the Middle East Practice Group at Coudert Brothers LLP in Frankfurt from 1995 to 2004 and worked out of Dubai from 2005 to 2015 as a corporate lawyer in his own law firm.
Christian studied political science, law, and Arabic at Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill., and the Universities of Heidelberg, Mainz, and Alexandria, Egypt. He did his Ph.D. in law at the University of Mainz with a dissertation on international water law on the Nile river.
He is an active member of the German Bar Association and the American Bar Association (Section on International Law), a founding member of the Society for Arabic and Islamic Law, a member of Cross Border Business Lawyers (CBBL), the only worldwide network of German lawyers, and the German Professional Service Alliance (GPSA), which represents Egypt. He is a part I practitioner of the DIFC Courts in Dubai and was the Vice-Chairman of the Arab Regional Forum of the International Bar Association from 2003 to 2008.
Christian regularly publishes articles, delivers lectures, and participates in workshops at international conferences on Middle Eastern business laws.
