Larry Markowitz serves as Senior Advisor, Financial Communications and Investor Relations at NATIONAL, Canada’s largest independent public relations firm. Larry provides strategic counsel to clients in a broad range of sectors, helping them deliver the right message to the right people at the right time.
An experienced business lawyer, and an active investor in entrepreneurial ventures, Larry brings to each project an extensive network of contacts across Canada and around the world, along with strong communication skills in both English and French.
Larry spent 15 years as a business lawyer practising securities law, competition law and foreign investment law. More recently, he has helped launch several businesses, including CoPower, an award-winning social enterprise that finances clean energy projects.
Larry has been a frequent guest speaker at conferences, both domestic and international, on topics ranging from law to clean energy to personal branding. He has also taught business law at the university level.
Recently named a Governor of the Fondation du Barreau du Québec, Larry is a past winner of the Lexpert Zenith Award for Corporate and Law Firm Social Responsibility, and the Promies Award for Young Professional of the Year, as well as a two-time winner of the Past Presidents’ Award of AIJA, the International Young Lawyers’ Association.
Larry is a past president of the Lord Reading Law Society, a Montreal-based lawyers’ association that organizes gala dinners featuring prominent guest speakers, while advocating for the protection of human rights. He continues to serve as co-editor of the Society’s newsletter, a position he has held since 2009.
Involved in the community, Larry serves on the Board of YES Montreal, which provides English-language support services to help Quebecers find employment and start businesses, and as a mentor to start-ups at La Fondation Montréal inc. He is also a member of the Securities Law Committee of the Canadian Bar Association (Québec).
